Farming people can build a life around.

We’re developing a working farm where agricultural research can help new farmers build viable businesses.

Good farming needs
more than good soil.

Getting started in farming means finding land you can afford and gaining experience before taking on the full financial risk. Producing a good crop is only part of making a farm work.

Land

Finding suitable land at a price a new farm business can afford.

Experience

Getting practical experience before taking on a farm of your own.

Making a living

Understanding costs and finding buyers who make the business viable.

Our purpose

We’re designing CAC around these practical barriers to getting started.

02 / Putting it into practice

What we’re developing.

Our plan brings research and farmer training onto the same working farm, so what we learn can inform how people grow and sell their crops.

Research on the farm

We plan to test regenerative farming practices under everyday growing conditions. Alongside their effects on the soil, we’ll examine the cost and labor involved to understand whether they are practical for farmers to adopt.

Sprout.

Farmer incubator

The planned incubator would give new farmers a place to develop their businesses with support. The aim is to help them gain experience producing for a market before taking on an independent operation.

Learning from the results

We want farmers to be able to use what the research finds. Planned training would give participants experience with the practices being tested and help them assess what could work in their own businesses.
